server services problems

Hi,

I'm having a few problems with RedHat 9 and server services.

I can ssh within the linux machine to itself.

ssh 192.168.0.110

works (as well as 127.0.0.1).

but from another computer on the network it doesn't work.

Networking is all set up properly, as I can see the rest of the network
fine. But when I port scan I don't see anything open.

There doesn't seem to be an entry for ssh in my /etc/xinetd.d/ directory
which I would have thought would be nesscary for ssh?

Also, all the files in that directory seem to have "disable = yes" in them.
I know it's a stupid question but does this mean those services are
disabled?

I tried changing "disable = no" on a couple of them and restarting the
xinetd service but still nothing shows up on a port scan.

Oh yeah, and how does xinetd know which port to listen on? Are they matched
up with the services file and the id field?

So if anyone could explain why I can see my computer but can't talk to it
it'd be much appreciated!

thanks

adam

Is Redhat's default firewall running by chance...this is probably the
issue.

Because SSH runs it's own daemon and doesn't use xinetd.

It's sad that a family can be torn apart by something as simple as a pack of
wild dogs.
