I'm on a Windows 2003 Server acting as a domain controller. I have some odd
behavior. Every so often, maybe once a month or so, the server service will
stop and clients can no longer establish connections to the server. If I try
to start the server service, it gives me the following error:
Error 5: Access is Denied.
Computer browser service, Distributed file systems, and netlogon all rely on
the server service so when it stops, they all stop.
Is there a way to start the server service under different credentials such
as the system account? The administrator account apparently does not have
sufficient rights to start the server service. If I reboot, it starts up
fine and works again but I would like to be able to avoid reboots as this
server is used constantly and is difficult to find time to reboot it.
I would also like to know what is causing the server service to stop in the
first place but the even logs don't offer much help. Any ideas in that
department would be appreciated as well. Thanks.
