Server not operational

Hi,

I'm trying to add groups to the share permissions on a different W2003
server to my 2003 DC server. When I click on Add and then type in the user or
group name, it doesnt find it in the directory but both do exist.
If I click Advanced to filter the directory or return all users / groups
then it returns "Advanced page cannot be shown. The server is not
operational. " If I do this on the DC server it works fine.

The same errors above also happen if I try this on a local computer (WinXP
or Vista) if adding users / groups to local admin groups.

The DNS server appears to be working as all computers can resolve dns ok for
both local and internet addresses. DCDiag returns no dns issues. Firewall is
turned off on the DC and all client / severs but still not working.

Run out of ideas on what is happening or where to start troubleshooting.
Have checked event viewer on server and client computers but no clues in
there either.

Thanks

Nathan

Hello Nathan,

Is the server a domain member or a standalone machine or a DC from another
domain?

Best regards

Hi,

The server that I'm trying to add the users to the share permissions is a
domain member. This sever is a brand new server just been built and has never
been near another domain. The DC is fairly new and again has only controlled
one domain.
