Hi All, got a wierd problem. I have a server that stops being responsive, and
it ends up locking up my clients. Now, it's a domain controller, but have
moved all the roles off of it, as well as DNS and WINS to another DC. Why
would this server be locking up clients? Not totally locking up clients, but
bringing them to a crawl. The other server is the GC as well. No errors in
the event logs as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know it's
this server, cause when it gets rebooted, problem goes away. Now this problem
will only show it's ugly face after a couple of days! Go figure!! Any help
would be great!!

Hello Scott,

What do you mean with locking up clients? Please be more specific.

Best regards

I am experiencing a similar problem as well, so maybe I can
elaborate. When user's are logging in, it takes a lot longer period
of time to actually reach the desktop. Then when trying to open
windows explorer to view the local c:\, the computer clocks and
clocks. Reboot the DC and the clients work just fine. I have seen a
few messages like this crop up:

The "pc name$" tried to authenticate. Access is denied.

Sorry I couldn't find the exact error message in the Event Viewer but
it seems as if the clients aren't authenticating. But why? I'm not
very sure.

Thanks for any help!
Matt

Yes, what I mean is that they are very, very slow to respond. When you login,
it takes a long time for your desktop to come up, and when it does, it's
EXTREMELY slow!! When you open Network Neighborhood, the machine will freeze
for a couple of minutes, and never give you anything...

Hello Scott,

Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the servers and one client that
has the problem.

Best regards

I understand what you're looking for and eveyone points to another server for
WINS and DNS. 192.xx.xx.13. That is the WINS and DNS server. Both services
are working properly. Now, the server in question used to be the DNS and WINS
server, as well as DHCP, but has since been moved to another server. All
clients point to 192.xx.xx.13 as well. The problem server is 192.xx.xx.10.
