Server 2008 NIC Teaming

I'm having a problem on multiple Dell PE2950 and PE2900 servers with NIC
Teaming. Each server has dual on-board Broadcom NetxtremeII NIC's. Using the
BACS program, I create a single team and add both adapters. With one NIC
plugged in, everything works perfectly, although the team isn't optimal. When
I plug in the second NIC, all network traffic stops, and although both NICs
and the Team adapter are listed as enabled, the Server 2008 Network and
Sharing Center list the "Access" as either Local Only, or Limited
Connectivity.

As soon as I unplug one of the NIC's, everything begins working properly
again. Its as if Windows thinks that the server is multi-homed, even though
the Team adapter should be managing the traffic.

Has anyone experienced this behaviour, and have a solution?

Hello Jadus01,

Sounds more that the Dell/Broadcom teaming software is not ready for 2008.

Best regards

I have multiple customers running Windows 2008 using Dell and their software
with teamed NICs with no problems whatsoever, on both x86 and x64. Matter of
fact, when I setup the servers in my office prior to sending them out, I
only use one NIC after I setup the team. I can change the wire to either NIC
and it works fine.

I believe the team was not setup correctly in the software, possibly not
choosing the Fault Tolerance and Load Balancing option. There aren't much
other options when setting it up other than choosing VLANs, etc, or the
teamed interface that shows up wasn't setup correctly with the proper IP
config. The other two (original interfaces) are not to be touched after the
team is setup.
