Server 2003....Opening Apple Mac files on the PC

We have about 30 Apple Mac's in classrooms running a stand-alone application
called Accelerated Reader. We would like to put the app on our
server...2003...for ease of maintenance. We are having difficulty reading the
'Student Files' folder from the Mac. The only way I am able to 'see' the
folder is by turning on 'Web Sharing' on the Mac and then connecting from the
server via the web, specifying the Mac's IP address. But, then I can not open
the 'Student File' or save it in any format, except HTML, on the server.
Then,I can't open the HTML version on the server...not even with the
application program...Accelerated Reader...which created it. I have installed
the Appletalk protocol on the server to try that way...with no luck.

I am NOT a server expert....just a middle school teacher....is there a way
that I can put the Macs on our 'workgroup' and get the files that way? I'm
not sure if I'm even asking the correct questions???? Thanks...
