have 2003 small business server, 4 xp pro and 1 win2k
systems, all xp pro systems see server shares and access
with no problems....win2k system (notebook) when browsing
network sees all other systems, including server...can
access xp systems and drill down to their shared
resources...when trying to access server get "path not
found message" or "not accessible"....all systems attached
to the same switch....have created a user name for both
the notebook name "notebook" and for the user name "user"
all with and without passwords.....can't even get a log-on
dialogue box when clicking on server..

no domain...simple "workgroup" workgoup...no internal
firewalls...have a hardware firewall (dhcp server) sitting
between the dsl provider and the switch....notebook and
others access internet okay... all nics excluding server
set to auto ip, server ip is static...

notebook can ping the server ip....any ideas????

thanks,,,

try \\server-ip-address and see what happens, is there a notebook user
account on the server? must be the same as the username the notebook uses to
log on.

>both the notebook user name and the name of the notebook

itself are authorized power users on the server....i don't
think that is the issue, because i am not even getting
a "logon" script for the server, even if the notebook
wasn't authorized....upon clicking on the server name in
the network browser, get message "path not found",
not "user name and password" even though I can ping the
server IP address successfully from the notebook.
