Hello PowerFET,
We had this issue on a 2003 server when 2000pro and XPpro machines saved
files to it. Searching through google you'll find you are not alone

In
a nutshell, it likely has to do with SMB signing. In our particular case,
we had to add the registery key 'TcpAckFrequency' with the value of 1
(reboot server) and all was instantly fixed.
Do a search either on google or
http://support.microsoft.com using the
keyword TcpAckFrequency and you'll see the exact location. If nothing else,
just reading over the articles may shed a little more light into you issue.
Good luck,
tsc
