Server 2003 connections reset

The setup:

I have a new installation of 2k3 server on an HP ML 150 G2. The server
provides only file sharing services to a small company LAN. The built in NIC
is a Broadcom NetXtreme 5721

The problem:

Intermittently connections to the server will be reset. Applications that
rely on a constant mapped drive connection to the server will crash. The VNC
connection will also drop. The connection can be re-established 1/2 a second
later.
The problem can go away for days and then happen many times a day on others.
I have watched the problem occur and the cpu, memory and network usage do
not surge. I was also pinging the server while it happened and no packets
where lost nor did the round trip time increase. There is nothing written to
any of the logs. It seems to happen at times when there is limited activity
on the server.

Things I have tried:

disabled power management on the NIC
hardcoded the speed and duplex of the NIC to 100mbs full
swapped out switch
swapped out and tested network cable
disabled anti-virus software

Very fustrating! Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Brian

my next step would be to disable the built in nic and install a separate nic
and see if the problem occurs with that
