I have 2003 DCs and file servers. Most client machines
are Win 2k or XP Pro however I still have about 25 Win 98
PCs with the Active Directory client installed.
Intermittently some of the 98 machines lose the ability to
access resources on 2003 server shares. Some with mapped
drives retain their mapping but seem to lose permissions
to the share. Disconnecting and remapping manually seems
to solve the problem. Other times when installing a
network printer and browsing to the 2003 print server I
get an access denied msg and can't see the shared printers.
Am I having an authentication problem, they never have
problems logging in to the domain. Any suggestions on
what to look for are appreciated. Thanks, Bill

You may need the patch mentioned in this article. The article's title may
not seem to directly apply to you , but I bet the patch will solve the
problem. The patches are password protected so you would have to call MS to
get both the password and the link to the patch. 1-800-936-4900

No. Yours is probably a different problem.

I have seen this question come up a lot with XP boxes in this group and have
never seen a difinitive answer for it yet. I'm not saying there isn't one,
I'm just saying I haven't seen it.

Thanks Phillip, I'll contact MS and see if I can get the
patch. I saw Javier's post too, I have not had the same
problem with either XP or 2K. R, Bill
