I had trouble with Linksys router when I switched to the RCA modem. My
Linksys PCMCIA would not work either when connected directly. I switched
over to DLink rather than fiddle, my internet withdrawal symptoms were
getting bad. Those pieces of hardware still work perfectly as a LAN, but
not through the RCA modem.
I suspect that you have a similar incompatibility.
