Start, Run, cmd

Get a DOS window up and type NET SEND * your message here

This will go to each computer on the same network as your and cause a simple
pop up box with the message in it. If you know the ip address of a single
intended machine you can type its address in instead of the *

Cheers, Mike

That is fantastic. You've answered a question I haven't asked.
Cheers!

You need to ensure the MESSENGER SERVICE within XP is turned on however
(not the same at the windows messenger)

Type SERVICES.MSC in the run dialogue box off the START menu, and look
down the subsequent list for MESSENGER.

If you have anything pre SP2, and haven't made adjustment yourself it
will be on by default. If you have SP2 on your system(s) then it is
turned off by default.

HTH.

STFUTM, but of course, turning it on will, AFAIK, expose such to the
WAN, and you can expect to regularly receive various 'invites' no doubt.

However, if you have multiple PCs, odds are you are sharing an internet
connection (possibly using a router in NAT mode, whether for ADSL, ISDN
or cable) so you should not see any 'WAN' (ie internet originated) msgs

He may like to refer himself to http://www.grc.com to test further in
that case.
