Sending emails from 3 Mobile BB

I'm trying to get 3 Mobile BB going on my laptop (Win-Xp SP2)

I can browse ok - albeit slowly! - and I can access incoming emails using my
normal ISP's POP server, but I cannot send any - either from Outlook 2000 or
Outlook Express. [I *can* post to newsgroups (via news.individual.net) using
OE].

I expected to have to change the smtp server, and have set it to
smtp-mbb.three.co.uk like it says on the 3 website - but to no avail - I
just get 0x800ccc0f errors whenever I try to send.

Anyone got any ideas?

I could be talking b*llocks but I seem to recall reading somewhere that you
can use googlemail's servers to send and receive mail from any ISP. Try
pop.gmail.com & smtp.gmail.com.

As I say, it could be rubish but it won't take long to find out if it works
or not.

Good, have used it myself but unfortunately it's not 100% reliable.

Some sites that the email is delivered to, will take a look at the
convoluted "sent on behalf of" google header and ditch processing the
message any further. :-(

Thanks for the info. I think it only applies to gmail accounts though - I
don't think you can use the gmail smtp server for sending emails from other
accounts - such as PlusNet and Freeserve(Wanadoo/Orange) - which is what I
was trying to do.

ANYWAY, the problem seems to be solved for the time being. I'm currently
away from home, in a location where there's a much stronger 3G signal, and
it's letting me send emails without changing any of the settings I was using
yesterday. So either the server was on the blink yesterday, or I was getting
some sort of timeout because the link was too slow. I'll see what happens
when I'm at home again in a few days time.
