Bill,

On the BT business broadband accounts, all you have to do is call BT and
say which domain/s you want to use as part of your mail address, they
will verify that you own the domain (a simple WHOIS type check) and if
they are satisfied that you own the domain they will add it to your
permitted senders list.

I work in the HQ for a group of companies and I can send from any of
five domains now that I have given BT the details.

Just glad I don't use BT as (whilst I understand they're using the reason
of stopping spammers) I don't feel I'd want to have to inform my ISP each
time I wanted to send mail from one of my (many) domains. I have at least
5 dozen domains for different (legit) websites, but it would be a real pain
if an ISP needed to know the names of each and every one, especially as I
have used free 'privacy' services from a number of registration firms so
the details shown are those of the registration firm, not me. It would
be difficult to 'prove' 'ownership' of any domain in these cases, and
might make it awkward for a couple, where the wife had not taken her
husband's surname (so the account might be in one name, and the domain
registered for someone of different gender without the same surname!)

I agree with you, even more so as the number of "registrations" you can make
is up to five. All reasons really not to use BT as your ISP but their is a
sizeable chunk of the population that think a Broadband connection is only
available from a few companies and they stick [or sign up] with BT in the
belief that they will get the best service.
