Hi all

I never figured this one out over the years so thought I'd "ask the
audience" hehe

Is there any way to send a console message i.e. from the File "Server
Management" console
> Sessions > Send Console Message to a windows 98 (SE) client, using a 2003

server?

I've always thought there must be a way since I had the NT domain, but still
never managed/
got around to it

Is "NET SEND" a good option or the only option?

Regards,
Nathan H

Won't work on 9x clients unless they have WinPopUp loaded at startup &
running resident in the background.

aha...as I thought. I assumed it did that automatically but hey, it is 98
after all hehe

How do I get the client pc's to do that? A setting in config.pol netlogon
file? batch script?

Put it in the Win9x program menu startup group.

Yep...but brings up the program - I don't want the user to know its there
so is there any resident/command line options for it?

Not that I know of. They'll know it's there anyway.

They will now altho I can't use it - the pupils here would be having
conversations
with each other and all sorts, and would never do any work hehe

Do you know of any replacement/alternative 3rd party software which receives
messages
by the net send command? I've had a look and found a few but no idea if
they'll be any good :S

Can you get rid of the Win9x boxes & replace them with 2k or XP? Then you
could use net send, it would use the messenger service, but you could deny
them access to using it themselves via group policy.

Theoretically the best work-around solution ever....except that we've spent
all this years
financial budget on getting the new servers hehe

If you're (or anyone) is prepared to donate licenses, then please post here

There must be some little program out there that acts & replicates the
functions of winpopup
but without being visible to the user.......surely!.....?

Ah well...thanks anyway.
