I'm installing RedHat Linux (7.3) on an older Compaq Prosignia 300.
I'm having some problems with the ethernet connection.
I'm using the pcnet32 driver and it seems to be loading OK.
ifconfig shows the interface is up and shows the correct address(es)
and everything. But I'm not getting a link light on the hub (or on the
connector on the back of the box either).
/var/log/messages shows the pcnet32 module loading. It shows the
proper address and IRQ.
The problem looks like it is defaulting to the BNC (coax) connector. I
say it seems to be because I haven't actually connected a piece of
coax cable and terminators to the port yet. I would prefer to use the
RJ45 (10-base-T) connector.
Does anybody know what I have to do to make it use that 10-Base-T
connector?
BTW, I've tested the machine with a DOS boot disk and a DOS based
NetWare client. The NIC is good and with the NetWare client drivers,
the 10-Base-T port actually works.
