I need to be able to select 10/100 and possibly full/half duplex speeds to
get pppoe to work with the NIC. For some reason when it conects to a 10/100
hub, it connects at 100 speed of course, but wont connect to pppoe, if i put
a 10 base hub in there is no problems, or directly to the dsl modem it
connects at 10 and no problems. I know the 10/100 hub works fine, it works
under windows as well (still had to select 10 base in win98).

I have tried the media type with ifconfig but only comes out with a error,
im thinking it may need to be done at the module level (sis900 card, but a
few others kicking around if needed).

Thanks

Arron

Look for mii-tool or mii-diag; they should have what you're looking for.

Many of the ethernet cards can have their speeds restricted using options
to the module.
See the ethernet howto and go to the part for that card, or the doco for it
in the kernel source tree Documentation directory

You could always just plug the modem straight into the NIC. Isnt that the
way it is meant to work ?
(is it the switch in the 10/100 hub causing the problem ? the hub has a
switch between the 10mhz ports and the 100mhz ports - When a port changes
speed, it changes to the other side of the switch !. I think its this switch
that prevents the PPPoE working when the NIC is at 100. )
