Many of the ethernet cards can have their speeds restricted using options
to the module.
See the ethernet howto and go to the part for that card, or the doco for it
in the kernel source tree Documentation directory
You could always just plug the modem straight into the NIC. Isnt that the
way it is meant to work ?
(is it the switch in the 10/100 hub causing the problem ? the hub has a
switch between the 10mhz ports and the 100mhz ports - When a port changes
speed, it changes to the other side of the switch !. I think its this switch
that prevents the PPPoE working when the NIC is at 100. )
