Security Concern

If I have multiple computers hooked up to a router (mn-
100) and computer A gets a virus, does computer b get
affected? Thanks.

Well the answer depends on several things none of which are really a
hardware issue & thus off topic in this newsgroup.

Do you have functioning anti-virus software on the computer that isn't
infected?

What virus(es) is the computer infected with?

What OS are the various computers running?

Have you installed the patch that prevents the virus (There are several
patches for Microsoft software that will prevent some viruses)?

Now in one case if computer b is sharing a folder that has write
permissions & computer a has been infected with the KLEZ virus computer
b will also become infected if it is not protected against the virus.

So the answer is a rather complex one revolving entirely around the
software in use on your network.

Well lets look at the name of the newsgroup. It starts with "microsoft"
so that must mean we only talk about Microsoft products. Next it says
"public" so that means any person can post here. Then it says
"broadbandnet" so since this is a Microsoft newsgroup it must be talking
about the Microsoft Broadband Networking. Last but not least it says
"hardware" So that must mean it is the Microsoft hardware for networking
that we talk about.

Thus this is not a general networking newsgroup, but one for the
Microsoft Broadband networking hardware. I'd suggest posting in a for
whatever version of Windows you are running.

I don't believe it's off-topic at all. If i'm not sharing
files and strictly sharing an internet connection are
these computers in a way 'linked'via the router?

That is a prime reason to update to Service Pack 2 if your machines are
running Windows XP with the new Windows Firewall. If you allow a virus to
one machine on your LAN, it is now on "your" side of the Internet
connection. If it is actively seeking other machines to infect and you
leave your LAN-side computers unprotected, yes, they will become infected.

If the machines aren't on Windows XP, you can run third-party firewalls on
them, but need to specifically configure them for your own LAN access.
