Security for company laptop

I am currently sharing internet access through my Home PC via
satellite USB modems. Soon I will have DSL available in my area and,
at about the same time my Direcway one year committment will expire.

Previously I had a Linksys router/switch(4 port) connected directly to
a cable modem and was sharing internet through the router. This was at
a different house. We moved and did not have cable access. I was not
stupid enough to switch to satellite without a good reason

My company has since switched to a new laptop that I have to
synchronize to the home office computer, and they are extremely
paranoid about security. I am currently using a linksys wireless
access point router for a home wireless network. The company has the
laptop so locked up I can't even add a USB wireless adapter.

Once I get the DSL modem, is there a way I can connect the laptop via
cat5 cable to the internet, without providing access to the laptop
through the wireless network, using the router/switch between the
access point and the DSL modem as opposed to connecting the cat5 to
the accesspoint?

Russ

If your company is so paranoid, then you must be using a secure VPN client.
What's the problem with connecting it directly to a wireless router? You
could also install firewall software (or use the OS's built-in firewall if
it's Win-doze XP).

For what it's worth, there are wireless devices that conect to your computer
via ethernet. They don't need drivers or other software, so that is
do-able. I'm sure the company wouldn't like it, but we won't tell. The
Linksys WET11 is one such device.

No drivers, other than the one you already use for the wired ethernet port.
