Secure network access

We have a Linksys WRT54G router, with updated firmware. My wife has a laptop
with a Linksys adaptor card . I have no problems connecting it "encryption
Disabled" but when I connect encryption enabled, and follow the steps it
connects, but I get the message "Limited connectivity..." that is using the
Linksys configuration utility. If I disable the utility and use Windows
Wireless Connection utility (Windows Xp Home sp2) it comes right up no
problem, but gets knocked off after a while.
I guess I'm more concerned about getting knocked off the net, it never did
before (ran unsecure for over a year now, no issues)

Disable 802.1x authentication & also disable either Windows from
controlling the card or the Linksys software. That's the only thing I
can think of right now.

If your question is worth asking, it's worth posting.

If it’s not worth posting you should have done a search on

http://news.google.com/froogle?hl=en&tab=nf&ned=us&q= before wasting our
time.

If I sound hostile or arrogant you need to read the following before
posting a question "How To Ask Questions The Smart Way" at

to just has this article I think people should read before posting a
technical question.)

I had to disable, (or check "Let Windows Configure Your Connection") to
disable the Linksys and let windows do it, so that isn't it. How do I
Disable 802.1x authentication? Where, router or laptop? what screen, Setup,
Wireless Security? I don't remember seeing that option... Thanks

It appears in the properties of the network connection on the
authentication tab. You only have this option if you are running SP1 or
greater on XP.

I found this tutorial on how to disable "Wireless Zero Configuration in
Windows XP" that sounds like it is just the ticket for my connection
dropping off.
http://paininthetech.com/disable_wir..._in_windows_xp
Is it the same thing as you were trying to explain to me?

No that guy doesn't know that the better option is to tell it to only
connect to preferred networks. Now it stops trying to connect to any
other wireless network in your area. I don't have a wireless adapter so
I don't know right off hand where the setting is, but I do know that it
is in the properties of the network card.

One last thing if he did disable the Wireless Zero Configuration Service
he has to use software to configure his card instead of Windows.

I tried like he said and it worked so far like a charm. Both the wife and
the boy had no drop off all day. And I was able to configure with the cards
software utility instead of having to use windows.
