Hello,

Does anyone know how I can get files across a WAN
securly? I have read that I can install cygwin with
ssh/scp and do it that way but does microsoft have a
solution for this?

My goal would be to have an explorer window available to
me and be able to exchange files "securely" across two
networks. (From my house to a friends house, for
example...)

There are more than one kind of VPN. You are decscibing "Remote Access VPN"
but what you would use would be "Site-to-Site VPN" that is done with a pair
of VPN Routers.

Here is a list of articles showing the different ways of doing this. these
all assume you are using Windows Server as the "VPN Server". The concepts
would be similar with other devices.

Thanks Phillip...

I like the idea of the VPN connection. I use VPN going out from my network now. Do you need to be able to open ports on both routers for this to work? I have control over one of the routers but not the other. I need to open port 500 for VPN to work now and I'm not sure I would be able to do that both ways. Is there anything else if VPN isnt an option or is there a way to make it happen...

If they are *real* routers, no. But if that are SOHO Internet NAT Devices
that *call* themselves router, then probably yes, you need to enable
whatever "VPN Passthrough" features they may have. Such SOHO devices are not
*real* routers but and just a "simplified" form of hardware Firewalls

I don't know. Maybe FTPS, but I am not personally familiar with it.
