Hi all,

I appologise firstly if i have posted this querie in the wrong groups
as i wasn't quite sure where it would go.

We have a network with about 90 users, running a mix of OS's including
XP and 98, we have 2 Windows 2000 servers both configured as DC's, the
DC that was setup first is having problems at the moment and it is up
and down a lot, the problem is when its down the users can't login as
they should be able to onto the second DC, both DC's are set a Global
catalouge servers, is there anything i could check/change in the
config?

thanks in advance

Paul

Hi Paul,

Clients use DNS server to locate all DC? If first server is also DNS server
and it goes down, clients have to have alternative DNS server.

Is your second DC also DNS server? Do clients have it entered under their
TCP/IP settings?

Mike

Hi and thanks for your response.

Yes the second DC has DNS installed and DHCP is set to send this DC's
ip out as a secondary DNS server, i put static DNs settings on my
laptop and put the secdond DC's ip as the only DNS server, i then ran
nslookup and and the results appeared to show that all was working
fine with DNs on the second DC.

Thanks
Paul

Hi. Is the second DC able to be a working DC - I mean are there shares
NETLOGON and SYSVOL ? (type net share in command line on the DC). What about
logs - clear or maybe failure logons ?

greets

Maciej
