I have been trying to get our server to accept remote desktop connections for
weeks, our ISP is Centurytel, they had us upgrade our equipment to a westell
7500 to allow it to work, but none of their techs can figure out how to get
it to work.
We have a static IP, the Westell handles the dhcp, the server is set up
with a static ip, the remote desktop connection wizard asks for the dhcp
server that will handle the connections, I enter the router local IP, it then
asks for the vpn server name. We just want remote desktop, without a vpn,
what do I enter in this field?, our static ip?
I have tried that and cannot connect. I get the "may be off, or not on the
network" error every time. In configuring the westell for port forwarding I
set both udp/tcp,
3389, then there is a field for LAN port, which wants a whole number. I
tried the 3389 port at the centurytel tech's suggestion, no joy. If anyone
can help figure this out I'd be very appreciative.

Hello,

Unfortunately I am not familiar with Westell, but it should be doable. If
it's giving you this much grief, just go get a Linksys or Netgear router for
$ 50.00 that will probably have more features anyways, and just bridge the
Westell...
