How can I view the saved password that is associated with my RDP file?

Hello Lee,

you can't, at least not with Microsoft Tools. And I'm not going to recommend
any 3rd party tools, whch may be hacker stuff.
Until RDP 5.1 the account info is stored together with the RDP file, while
since RDP 6 the information is stored in the user accounts password store.
So to see which account is associated (without seeing the password in clear
text, but the account name, which should be enough) for RDP 6 files you can
use:
Start / Run / keymgr.dll,KRShowKeyMgr
For earlier RDP clients you see the account in the RDP file directly
Best greetings from Germany
Olaf

Thanks for responding. I was afraid the community would ignore my question
and think I was up to something sinister. Your response was very helpful.
One other question, when I look at the RDP file with Notepad, is there
anything that will tell me if it is RDP 5.1 or RDP 6 or some other version?

I have no RDP 5 client file in my hands any more (and I don't know, if they
get converted, if the client update is applied from Windows Update, or after
first usage with new client), so I cannot test this.
Maybe you will see some credentials in that file, if it is still RDP 5.1 or
lower. According to the screenshot (default.rdp in notepad) here
http://www.unterwegs-im.net/content/view/30/8/
there is a line usename, which I don't see in my Vista stored RDP file. But
I see the machine names and credentials via the command I mentioned earlier,
if I logged in and told the system to keep the credentials.
Best greetings from Germany
Olaf
