I just ordered a SAR 715 today based on their docs (And a few postings I'd seen) as it appeared to be the best 4 port router with built-in ADSL modem & SNMP...

Unfortunatley I've just seen a posting today on the solwise site asking if SNMP is ever going to be implemented in the firmware like advertised... ARRRRGGGGGGHHHH!!!!

Anyone now know if the SAR715 actually does SNMP like advertised? Or will I be sending it back as soon as it turns up?

Again Phone them, ask to speak to Steve he is very help full, one thing to
bear in mind is that the Firmware for the SAR715 is constantly under
development and new firmware is always being updated and improved upon with
new features.

Plus the support from Solwise for there Product is second to none.

Very happy SAR715 user.

Yeah, I checked the spec too. However I caught a posting (Unanswered) on the solwise forums that indicated that although the spec says it does SNMP it hadn't actually been implemented...

Hmm... Phone them... Novel approach... I've tried google & asking here... Maybe I could use that thing with the dial on it in the corner... Just brush the dust off it...

They didn't know. But are going to try & find out for me... And if it turns up and doesn't, I can just send it back...

I'll post an answer (If anyone is interested) when I find out for sure...

I've got the SAR 705 which is the same router but without the built-in
switch so it uses the same firmware. I've found the SNMP functionality
*very* limited, you can see things like uptime and few other things. I
don't think anyone's got traps to work for instance. If you are interested
in grabbing firwall logs I'm working on a utility that pull down the logs in
realtime, displays it on the screen, writes them to disk and files DShield
reports. I can provide you with an early beta if you're interested.

Cheers,
Matt

That sounds marvellous.

Or post a link... Depending on how large...

I've done some looking since my 715 turned up. The SNMP support in the firmware version that was on my router is fine. It's the interface stats I'm after. Works like a charm. Checkout <http://www.travellingkiwi.com/solwise/sar715.html>

I'm still decoding exactly what's available from the SNMP support that is there. There's a couple of things under mib2 that net-snmp doesn't have mibs for... Not sure yet what they are.
