I would put two IP networks on a single physical network.
Then you can assign the external addresses to some machines, and NATed
addresses to the others.
How you do this depends on the exact hardware you have. There are some
instructions at

If you ONLY want to use the external addresses set up the MODEM in BRIDGING
mode.
