(Sorry for the crosspost, but after posting to alt.os.linux, I thought
this group might be more appropriate.)

I've tried setting up Samba for file sharing between an XP box and a
couple of linux boxes, but am having some trouble. I'm able to browse
the XP shares from the linux boxes, but cannot go the other way and view
linux shares from XP.

Is it possible I'm having problems because I use XP Home edition and not
Professional? Has anyone had better luck with this?

It definitely works. Here's my working smb.conf file:
[global]
workgroup = Blah

[Home]
comment = Home Directory
path = %H
read only = no

Make sure the users are in the smbpasswd file and that you have started
the SMB server.

Got any useful info in the log files? (These may be in /var/log/samba).

Thanks Paul... now that I know it's possible I'll dig in deeper. Thanks
for your input.

I believ XP Home can access remote shares, but it just cant be part of a
domain. so samba will work but not as a PDC.
