Okay, so I found out with Redhat 9 that you first need to remove the
following rpms before installing Samba 3.0.

redhat-config-samba
samba
samba-client
samba-common

Then 3.0 installs just fine and so far seems to work fine. everyone is
happy.

Next question is if I want to install a samba-client package, what's the
best one.....can't seem to find the client in 3.0 version.

The installed smb on redhat is rather incomplete. I had to add a smbpasswd
file. Then I did smbpasswd -a user to add user.
Also the config file is problematic at best. I copied the config file from
lindows to get smb working.
