Hi all,
I am running a Windows NT network, but I want to set up a linux box as
a member server of the domain and share files.Â*Â*IÂ*wantÂ*toÂ*migrateÂ*toÂ*linux
eventually.
I have installed fedora core 2 (brilliant) onto a fairly new HP
pentium 4 computer and it is running great.Â*Â*IÂ*haveÂ*wentÂ*throughÂ*the
instructions in the samba 3 How to and reference guide to do this and
IÂ*Â*getÂ*asÂ*farÂ*asÂ*pageÂ*339,Â*sectionÂ*20.5.
I have added the \\linux1 computer account to the domain successfully, have
ran the wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g command and indeed I can see the users and
groups from my domain, but the next command is getent passwd which I
think is supposed to copy these accounts and populate the /etc/passwd
file with them -- but it doesn't, it doesn't list any of the domain
accounts, only the local linux ones, on editing the /etc/passwd file I
just see the defaults that were there before.
I have edited the /etc/nsswitch.conf file as requested in the manual:
Â*Â*passwd:Â*Â*filesÂ*Â*winbind
Â*Â*shadow:Â*Â*files
Â*Â*group:Â*Â*Â*filesÂ*Â*winbind
and saved it, restarted the smb service the winbind service and the
whole machine but I still can't see the domain users in the samba
configuration program.
Any ideas?Â*Â*IÂ*figureÂ*I'mÂ*nearlyÂ*there,Â*althoughÂ*IÂ*getÂ*theÂ*feelingÂ*I've
skipped something or done something stupid.
Thanks for any info.
