intersting question. probably an easy lm compatibility issue for someone
here. sorry if this has been asked.

i have a simple sbs 2003 server as pdc with no other servers, on a single
segment lan, with several mixed machines. all the windows boxes work as
expected except sbs when it comes to samba on os x 10.3 on the macs.

seems i can browse shares on the macs using "smbclient
//sbs03_server_name/share_name", yet i cannot use (*k) connect to
smb://sbs03_servername/share_name in finder; which using the exact same
machine, domain, user and password always returns a dialog saying "Could not
connect to the server because the name or password is not correct.

interestingly enough these same macs, when taken home to my w2kadv_server
work like a champ, shares, browse, connect to, the whole bit.

clues? what am i missing? thanks!

j.

WS2K3 authenticates using either Kerberos or NTLM (preferably
NTLMv2). Make sure that the SAMBA client is not using LANMAN
or other backlevel authentication for (*k) connect.
