Anyway,

Here's the question Plusnet cannot give me a straight answer to!

I'm migrating from Pipex to Plusnet. Pipex issued me with a MAC code valid
for 30 days. This expires on the 10th of august. I submitted this to Plusnet
last week and for some reason or other has only just been submitted to BT
today (thats what they say).

My concern is if BT do not migrate me before the 10th August my connectivity
will be lost and I'll have to sign up to either Pipex or Plsunet and pay a
connection charge and be without ADSL for a few weeks! Cannot happen!

Can someone confirm what happens?

Dan

Just received this email from Plusnet

"We are pleased to announce that we have ordered the broadband line
activation for your account. Overall, this process normally takes
5 to 10 working days. We will send an email to your PlusNet email
address once your line is activated. "

Does that change things?

Why ? With so many deals offering 'free' activation, that's a fee which
can generally be avoided. If you decided to revert to your existing ISP
or cancel the migration, there's a chance of having some fee to pay. If
you find that there is sufficient of a delay for your MAC to expire, I'd
say there's not a lot you can do, but wait patiently. Some delay caused
by Plus.Net might make them responsible for providing you with a dial-up
facility at no cost, but cross that _if_ it comes to it, perhaps...

If BT have accepted the order, then they have done so before the date
specified with the MAC. Without a MAC, BT should not have accepted the
order.

That should not happen as that is not how MAC codes are designed to be
used.

Pipex have issued you with a MAC code valid for 30 days.
If that code is used, then BT wholesale will give you a cutoff date for the
old service and connection to the new service.
If the MAC code is not used and expires your Pipex account will not be cut
off and you will continue with them unless you have specifically told Pipex
to close your account at a certain date.

That's not what Pipex told me when I requested my MAC on Tuesday -
after 30 days Pipex will be gone, if I have not got a new providor by
then, no ADSL!

Yes, as the MAC has been used now.

In my case it was 7 days from my request to being live. I like that second
sentence... They really don't send the e-mail until after it is done :-)

(I believe this is in case the migration fails, rather than activate the a/c
and wish to charge the customer for use, and then have to mess about to give
a refund...)

They must have done two things as one then - given you the MAC and taken it
as notice for termination. I wouldn't think they'd be too reluctant to
scrap that though it you change your mind.
