Hi

I have a Netgear DG814 router, and a PC running Windows XP.

I am trying to connect to a customers network using the SoftRemoteLT VPN
client.
The VPN client always fails to connect, the log reports INVALID_ID.

I think this is a router/nat issue.
When I connect to the internet using a dial-up modem I can connect to my
customers network using the VPN, assuring the VPN connection does work.

Does anyone have any info tips on getting this to work?

Many thanks

Darren

Not a router issue - I setup a customers system using one of those
routers a little while ago and the VPN worked fine. He was running NAT
on the router as well.

Are you using the same ISP for both dialup and ADSL? Note that some ISPs
don't support VPN connections.... (AOL springs to mind!)

Do you need to make any changes to the setup of your VPN software to
stop it trying to use the dialup connection?

Hi John

Thanks for your response

I use Virgin BB and Virgin Dial-up, so same ISP.

I use the Windows VPN client to connect to the other customers running the
Windows VPN server, using the Router, so I know the BB ISP and the router
allow VPN.

I have tried setting up the PC as the DMZ server on the router, ensuring all
ports are forwarded, just in case.

Yet the SoftremoteLT VPN does not seem to work.

Any more ideas?

Thanks

Daren

Not having ever used SoftremoteLT I can't offer any specific advice. As
you say the fact that you can use the windows VPN client to establish a
VPN would suggets that the router is correctly setup for VPN passthrough
and Virgin are doing their bit ok.

The likely culprit looks like the VPN client software - since you have
pretty much eliminated most other parts. Are there any FAQs etc on their
web site?

Just a though: I take it you are not getting stuffed by a software
firewall on your computer? (guess how many hours I have wasted trying to
sort inexplicable network comms problems for just that reason!)

Are there any compatible VPN clients you could try to use to connect to
the server in place of the Softremote client?
