Safecom SAMR-4110 - brownouts?

Does anyone know if this ADSL modem/router (a.k. Origo ASR-8000) is
particularly susceptible to supply brownouts?

i.e. when the mains supply voltage dips to say 50% of its nominal value
for say half a second.

I have one in an unattended installation that locks up around once a
week due to brownout events. I have verified that this is the cause
with a Variac (voltage variable transformer).

The Ready light (normally flashing) stays on or off continuously and you
cannot talk to the device through the LAN port.

Alternatively can anyone recommend a more robust alternative?

TIA

Connect the router to a UPS (small ones can be purchased for next to
nothing). This will supress any brownouts or overvoltages and alsp offer
protection on power outages.

I tried a Belkin UPS. It worked great for blackouts, but it wouldn't
filter brownouts. It's because inexpensive UPSs are not True UPSs.
They use relays that switch to the backup battery at a predefined
threshold. The blurb said "protects against all types of power
disturbance" and then lists the types of disturbance. Brownouts not
specifically mentioned.

I need a robust ADSL modem router with at least one ethernet port that
will not not lockup any circumstances in a 24/7 environment.

If you need that level of resilience it sounds as if all your IT kit would
benefit from a high grade UPS. Any device could lock up if you remove the
juice for a split second. At the other end of the scale, and a total bodge,
you could try putting a large electrolytic capacitor across the 4110's DC input.

Oddly the wireless access points and routers have no problem with the
occasional 'dip'. They seem to come back every time. It's just this
modem that locks up.

I'd buy another one if I could get a recommendation, but most folk don't
run them 24/7 unattended.

The trouble with true UPS is the cost. Out of all proportion to the
cost of the modem.

Yes I thought about a big capacitor with a relay and a surge limiting
resistor or lamp. Maybe that's the way forward.
