Runtime error with Microsoft WIFI software

I just bought the Microsoft MN-500 wireless router and
got the network setup. My problem is the software used
to configure the network,(MSBNUtil.exe), does not work.
I'm getting a runtime error saying abnormal program
termination. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any third party skinning software installed?
Or ATI's Hydravision?

Those two groups of programs are known to interfere with the Broadband
Networking Utility application.

Besides what Jason said, are you running an Symantec anti-virus program
while attempting to install? If you're on Windows XP, have you tweaked your
Services any?

Windows Blinds is an example of such software.

Either uninstall it or find out how to set the MSBNutil.exe (and perhaps
msbntray.exe) as programs you want to exclude from being skinned.

Skinning software like this can very easily introduce issues like what you
are seeing due to their non-standard interacations with other applications.

What have you tweaked with TweakXP? What I was talking about is the
services, such as Cryptographic Service. Unless enabled and running,
installs will not function properly. And, unfortunately Norton and some
third-party firewalls like ZoneAlarm are ill-behaved and continue running
even though you "exit" them. If you can, uninstall Norton, do the install,
and I believe you'll see better results.

It sounds like you ought to further investigate all these tweaks you are
making to your system.

You are potentially doing yourself a disservice.

WindowsBlind is most likely causing the problem here (as it interferes with
the interfaces that msbnutil.exe use).

Though you're right that with all the tweakin' that the OP has been done
without [any] knowledge of the implications, who knows what else has been
unnecessarily changed.
