I have a Netgear DM602 broadband modem (setup in Router mode -
essential as PPPOA is only supported in the UK and the WRT54G does not
support PPPOA as far as I understand) connected by ethernet cable to a
Linksys WRT54G, linked in turn to a desktop PC. This works perfectly
well for surfing, email, FTP etc. but when I try and open up some
ports or even DMZ then I get nowhere with serving web pages (as a
server) - the ports are not forwarded and I can't get past the DM602.
The WRT54G reports no WAN IP address at all on the DDNS page but the
DM602 does. I know nothing about NAT but suspect that's got a hand in
what's occuring.
I originally had the DM602 as a DHCP server but since trying to
configure port forwarding etc. then I have assigned static IPs on the
LAN - 192.168.1.1 for the DM602, 192.168.1.2 for the WRT54G and
192.168.1.3 on the PC.
I have tried port forwarding on port 80 (+ others for other apps) on
the DM602 to the WRT54G's IP address then port forwarding on the
WRT54G to the PC's IP address but with no luck. I have also tried
putting the WRT54G in the DM602 DMZ and also the PC in the WRT54G DMZ
(reluctantly) but again no joy.
I am running the latest DM602 firmware for European models
(3.05NUF0-1.38.030131d) and the latest I think I need for the WRT54G
(v1.30.9, Aug. 8, 2003).
I have no complaints with the setup so far such as hanging/freezing
etc. as reported elsewhere in this group and I have had this setup for
some time now so cannot take any of the hardware back.
This originally started with me trying to get MSN Messenger audio
working - I understand that my W2K installation will need upgrading to
Windows XP for UPnP enablement but I don't want to do this until I can
prove that this isn't going to be a complete waste of time.
Is there any way I can serve web pages/port forward etc. using this
hardware setup ? Replies via newsgroups only (if there are any!).
Thanks.
