Running an application thru mapped drive vs UNC

Is there any difference between running an application located in Windows
Server 2003 thru mapped drive vs UNC from a client machine? Which one should
be used?

It doesn't matter, as long the software is capable to recognize
its position, and all the software dependency files installed
in your computer.
