About two weeks ago a friend of mine downloaded something
that took 1 1/2 hours believing that it was from
Microsoft. I don't believe that it was. Starting that
next day, his modem was no longer working and thus he
can't connect to the Internet so he cannot go to Windows
Update to see if it was something from there that he
downloaded. He checked in the add/remove programs and
there weren't any hotfixes or anything showing there.
When he tries to connect it says that there is no dial
tone. He switched the cable and tried it with his fax and
it worked fine, so it is not a problem with the
connection. He has been receiving the following error
when trying to open the device manager to check on his
modem: "Rundll32 has caused an error in Sysdm.cpl
Rundll32 will now close." The modem is an US Robotics
3COM Model 0889. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use System Restore to return the system back in time to when it was last
known working properly.
