Slackware... Kernel version: 2.4.20.

What's the big deal?

Well - almost everything seemd to be OK: I've made a (precompiled) driver
(with carefull README-directions wathing ). After 'make' command I've got
RTL_8180_24x.o file.

Second step:
iwpriv recognized "wlan0' interface, I could even try to succesfully set
some parameters, but It crashes, always after "iwpriv wlan0 enable"
(Segmentation Fault).

Maybe I should try some other stuff/techniques?

HELP

P.

Why do you need iwpriv?

Well, my good man... Wireless Extension works in "half" with 8180L chipset.
That's the bigest problem. I know, that there is a tool called "iwconfig",
but... driver just didn't work with it - don't be sure, that it's just my
imagination. First answer the question: Why does producer (REALTEK) suggest
to use "iwpriv" instead of "iwconfig"?

I tried to use iwconfig. Oh yes I did! But there is no other way to "power
on" the driver, than "iwpriv <interface> enable", which simply crashes the
kernel. Now I can see, that it's just a software problem - a result of
missing opensource driver. I would like to create one. But will someone give
me chipset documentation? Don't think so.

best regards

P.
