Hi!

I'm running a Win2003 srv. with RRAS, and I'm trying to access my LAN by VPN
from a client site.

When external VPN connections are made, the system log records the error:
Source: RemoteAccess
Event ID: 20189
Description:
The user DOMAIN\username connected from www.xxx.yyy.zzz but failed an
authentication attempt due to the following reason: The connection attempt
did not match any connection request policy.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I've tried the formula to restrict access to Ehternet and/or VPN in the
default Ras Policy, but with no luck.
On the client connection, the DUN response is: wrong user name and/or
password or domain

Best regards
J@n

The message means just what it says. You do not have a policy which will
allow connection for this user. Set the default policy to grant access with
no restrictions, and set the client's account to use remote access policy
(on thedialup tab).

After you get a connection, you can start tightening the restrictions by
adding conditions to the policy.

Hi,

I understand that the system displays Event ID 20189 when an external VPN
connection is established.

To resolve this issue, please try the following steps:

1. Start the Routing and Remote Access administrative tool.
2. Expand the options under your RAS server's name.
3. Click Remote Access Policies, and then right click and go to Properties
on the default policy called "Allow access if dial-in permission is enabled"
4. Click the "Edit Profile" button and in the "Dial-in Constraints" tab, if
you have "Restrict Dial-in Media" checked you can either uncheck it
completely or you can check it and select "Ethernet" and "VPN" from the
list of options available.
5. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Check if the issue is resolved.

Thank you,

Rashmi
