RRAS issue with NIC connected to a DSL Modem

Hi all, I have this irritating little problem with RRAS. Our W2K server
is configured as a NAT router, with 2 NICS - one connected to the
internal network, and one connected to the DSL modem. Instead of the
server initialising the DSL connection, the modem takes care of it all -
its a Dlink 300+ btw. Now, everything is fine until we recieve a new IP
from the ISP via their DHCP - unfortunatly its not possible to obtain a
static ip address.

What happens is that the W2K server 'loses' the address for the NIC
connected to the modem. It's still configured to route packets through
the old address. So the upshot is that we lose our internet connection.
Now fixing it is easy, a simple remove and re-config of the RRAS server
fixes the problem, however, there must be some way for it to
automatically update itself and the NIC's ip address should we recieve a
new address, and therefore have no need to reconfig every time? Is this
possible? Or is this a limitation of using RRAS and NAT with a DHCP
configured NIC?

Thanks for your help - please keep in mind that we wish to keep the
current setup exactly as it is, so please no posts saying get a real
modem/router or something else like that

Cheers,

Jarrod

If the ISP is using PPPoE, then you may have to contact them to find out if
the machine needs some software to be able to work with that. They could
tell you better than anyone since they set it all up. Just keep a "healthy
skepticism" when taking to the "first-level" Techs that don't comprehend the
difference between a simple home-user running XP-Home and what a business's
needs are.

Let's concentrate on the modem and the nic connected to the modem. What are
the IP addresses?...of the modem?...of the nic connected to the modem? I
know the WAN IP is dynamic, so just tell me what the current one is so I can
get a better understanding of your configuration.
