Bill,

I've read most of your post regarding RRAS but did not find exactly
what I am looking for.

I am setting up a test environment using Virtual Server 2005. The
environment needs to look like this:

US Forest trusted with the UK Forest

Using 1 Virtual Server to simulate the Internet (2 interfaces):

US = 10.1.0.1
UK = 10.2.0.1

A Wind 2k3 server on both sides on the pond as routers:

US WAN Interface: 10.1.0.2
US LAN Interface: 192.168.1.1

UK WAN Interface: 10.2.0.2
UK LAN Interface: 192.168.2.1

Then a domain controller on each side using the respective LAN
interface of the routers as their DG, e.g.

USDC: 192.168.1.2
DG: 192.168.1.1

I need to simulate a "leased-line" scenario, not a site-to-site VPN.

I'm having trouble finding clear documentation on setting up just a
static route between these 2 separate networks or if using a static
route is the correct way to configure a leased line (do I still need a
DOD interface?).

I created a static route on each router pointing to the WAN interface
on the other router and can ping it but I cannot perform any other
operations such as creating the trust as the domain controllers can
not see one another.

I cannot ping the simulated internet interfaces, e.g:

US DC:

c:\ping 10.1.0.2 - OK
c:\ping 10.1.0.1 - no dice

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

A leased line is really just a dedicated point to point connection. On a
public network you need to use a site to site VPN to emulate one. The VPN
servers tunnel the traffic through the public network to create a point to
point connection.

On a test rig you can use a virtual network or even the local LAN to
emulate the leased line. You set up your routers to forward traffic for the
"other" site across this link. The intermediate network is simply the link
between the routers (which is really all that a leased line is).
