RP-PPPoE assigns a new IP address every time I reboot!

Hi,

I am using the rp-pppoe package to connect to connect to my DSL
provider. I have a problem that my IP address changes every time I
reboot. I am familiar with dyndns.org and the perceived "benefits" of
address shuffling, but for a server this is a huge inconvenience.

My question is why can't the PPPoE connection be preserved across
reboots? It seems that this would just require saving a little state
information when shutting down, and then attempting to restore the
existing connection to avoid a new PPPoE login. Provided that the PC
is not powered off for very long between reboots, this should work
fine.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Having a "mostly static" IP
address would be very desirable for anyone wanting to run a server.

Thanks!
-Pete

Surely this has nothing to do with rp-pppoe.
It is your ISP who is changing your IP address.
Pay him a little more, and he will give you a static address.
