Usual sort of Newbie question.

What I've got is a newly installed Easynet Business Broadband solution which
gives me a Lucent Cellpipe 20A-GX-UK ADSL modem/router which has just one
ethernet port which is directly connected into a desktop PC. Works fine and
as it is paid for by a company, I can't mess around with it.

Now I want to set up a network to allow a (Centrino) laptop to share this
broadband access and preferably the printer which is hanging on the desktop
USB port as well. Simplest I guess would be a PCI wireless card in the
desktop and set it up to share the access, but would mean having to have the
desktop on to use the internet from the laptop.

So what are the alternatives (wireless or wired)? Do I need another router,
a hub, a switch a WAP or what?

Confused of Coventry.

Get a router which has a WAN (wide-area-network) ethernet port. I'm not sure
if any wireless routers have USB printer sharing abilities, someone else may
be able to help you there.

Plug the ADSL Modem into that.

Use the router's manual and config interface to enable sharing

Away you go.

Just buy any 5 or 8 port switch, plug the modem/router into that and then
plug all your pc's into the switch. Simple. You just leave the switch and
router on all the time and switch the pc's on when you need them. The only
thing you will to do is have the main pc on when you want to print from
the laptop. But you could always unplug the printer usb cable and plug it
in to the laptop when you need to print.

Centrino = wireless enabled (99% of the time), good solution here includes
USB print server

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?NGR-105410

Plug PC and ADSL modem into this via ethernet, printer via USB and
wirelessly connect from anywhere from the lappie and use the printer & ADSL
whether the PC is on or not
