Only if the router had a modem and could do the dialup itself,
establigh the connection, then share it to both computers. Cisco has
some like this, basically dial on demand.

Otherwise, depending on the operating system of the one with the
dialup connection, you'd just use internet connection sharing (ICS).

That basically turns the machine with the modem into a demand dial
router for the other machines on the network - it becomes the gateway.

ICS will put a pseudo-dhcp server on the machine with the modem, it'll
hand out addresses in the appropriate range, and configure so it's the
gateway for other machines on your network. You'll then configure it
to dial the account you desire when traffic is coming across to it.

Other client machines will simply pass any non-local traffic through
to it, the connection will get established, and it passes traffic back
and forth.

you should be able to find plenty of info for the details in the help
section on the computer, especially if it's running xp, since XP's
help is better than 9x or ME. ME has ICS as well, don't recall if
98SE had it or not, or if it was available as an add-on. So you may
need ME, 2K, or XP to do it.

John

Quick question, quick answer needed please:

Two computers connected together using wireless, one has a dial-up
connection for internet/e-mail etc.,

Do I need a Router to enable the other machine to share the Dial-up
connection ?

ICS is Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing software. You should find it
with XP. It will assign 192.168.0.1 to the ICS computer's NIC. Set the other
NIC to Automatically Get IPand DNS... you should be set. Be sure the SSID
foe both wireless are set the same... usually the default to get started,
another name for security later once all is working.
