Router won't remember password

When I log in to my router which is a Draytek Vigo 2600Gi (Wireless
ADSL/ISDN router - I am using ISDN) - it asks for username and password in
the usual fashion. I don't use a username but have a password set ( I
presume it is more secure for having a password?). There is a tick box for
remembering password. I tick this, but the next time I go in it hasn't
remembered it. Is there a way of getting it to remember?

I have searched through every menu on the router but can't find anything to
do with passwords other than for changing it.

If don't give it a username how do you expect it to remember the
password?

The router manual just leaves the username and password blank, and though
theres an entry in the menu for changing the password, I can't find one for
setting the username.

Am I more secure by having a password (i.e from the outside world)?

Absolutely not, passwords are old technology, these days we use Windows
based security, that being, if an intruder does get on your machine, Windows
will probably crash before they can do any damage.

And the non-sarcastic answer, Yes, not having a password it like leaving
your front door wide open. Sooner or later somebody will come in.
