I was looking at routers today and as far as I can see, you can have one
or the other of these, but not both in anything.
You can have a good firewall with incoming and outgoing blocking, OR a
print server port (USB), OR a HDD port (USB2), but never together on the
same device.
Since a separate printer to ethernet bridge cost $70+ and a HDD to
ethernet bridge costs $100's, that's really not gonna cut it.

Am I wrong, or has nobody wised up and seen that these need to be combined
in a single product?

What makes you think an all-in-one gadget will be cheaper?

You are wrong.

The results of a Google search that took me just 2 minutes:

http://www.usr.com/products/networki...sp?sku=USR8200
http://www.ovislink.com.tw/9000intro.htm

To be honest, I just don't see the appeal of such products. If I want to
pile so much stuff in one area (computers, drives, printers...), I might as
well hook them up (esp the storage devices) directly to a networked PC. At
least I have more control that way.
