Friend has Virgin broadband and wants to add second pc in next room - hard
wired,
can anybody recommend a suitable router please ? Also would it require an
ethernet or a x-over cable ?

cheers,

Brian Day

Point your friend to the newsgroup and we can advise HIM. It will be easier
direct than to relay through you.

I bought a s/h 4-port Safecom router on Ebay, but have also used 4-port
Edimax (from Ebuyer.com) and 4-port models in the DabsValue range (note
that at some point Dabs.com might point only to PC World products and a
lot of higher prices may be expected). The Safecom model can be bought
new for under 25 quid at http://www.linuxadsl.co.uk/ and is easy to set
up. Most routers will sense the type of cable, but a straight ethernet
cable is likely to be cheaper. Have helped a number of friends both on
wired and wireless setups - wired is definitely reliable! Peter M.

If you placed this subject line in a newsgroup down under you might get
some very strange and then disappointed replies. <smirk> :-)
