Have just sent my Belkin wireless G router back because it started to not
connect to random sites or the admin page after a few days of normal
activity or after some heavy bit torrenting. The Linksys Wireles G was the
same before that

Having a look about it seems to be a common problem with most modern routers
probably to do with the firewall. My ancient sti-labs wired router never
gave me any problems.

Anyway, could someone please reccomend a wireless cable router that dosent
flake out when handling lots of connections?

Failing that what is considered the best wired cable router around at
present for around £40-50? Having huge amounts of settings or hacked
firmware would be cool so i can have a good fiddle to try and gets things
ticking over nicely.

Many thanks for any help.

Gordy

I changed from a Netgear DG824M to a 3Com router for exactly that
reason. After a day on the torrents the wireless would just just give
up, but the wired was OK.

Bit of a plug I know, but my 3COM (and the netgear) are on ebay ending
in just over an hour (see my other post), as I've upgraded to the
excellent (but expensive) Draytek Vigor 2600VG for it's VPN endpoint
support and twin VoIP ports.

I've never had a problem with the wired side of things, it's always been
wireless that's been twitchy.

Draytek Vigor. I got mine (2600) about 12 months ago priced over £100. They
are now going second hand on Ebay for around £50.

oops sent before I had finished. Mine hasn't missed a bit since I set it up
all those months ago. The only time I have had to reboot it was when I
upgraded to a different broadband speed.

Mine isn't the wireless version but I bought an access point (Netgear) for
£7.50 and it was just a matter of plugging it in.

Steven.

Seconded. We're running one of those at $ORK; it replaced a frankly
rubbish D-Link DSL-504 unit. We've had it for over a year now and it's
been rock-solid stable.
