router reduced line speed

For two weeks now my router has been synching at around 3100kbsec

A short while ago my connection stalled to almost zero so I reset the router
and now it is synching only at around 2700kbsec.

Have I lost the extra speed for good or is it likely to return with another
synch another day?

It will likely return later.
Sync speeds can vary from day to day and can vary considerably due to many
reasons including the weather, time of day, even atmospheric conditions can
have an influence on sync rates.

Thanks. Never had synch speed change before so was not sure what to expect.

Why worry about 400kbps???

If your router stalled & needed a reset it is a pretty sure forgone
conclusion that you SNR went below the 5-6dB level. If it does it once
it'll probably do it again so stop worrying about 400kbps & start seeing if
you can find what made the SNR so low.

A quick fix would be to softboot your router in the morning but you'll most
probably have to do it more than once that day as the noise level rises,
reducing your bandwidth & so slowing you down again...

I am not worried, it is back down to the speed I was getting when at
plusnet. I am just asking a question and trying to learn.

Happens all the time on your new ISP, they will always supply the full speed
you can get at the time of synch, if the noise level rises they appear to be
unable to negotiate the speed downwards as the noise level rises & I don't
even think they've even heard of the term MAX stable rate. As for ADSL2, I
was 'reliably' informed by one of their front desk staff that I would
require 2 telephone lines to receive it. Yes just another fine example of
their lack of training in the fundermentals...
