Router doesn't allow me to boot up computer

I just recently set up a D-Link 4 port router to my
computer that has ME operating system. Once I set up this
router I can longer boot up my computer with it attached.
When I try to do so the system goes through the normal
processes and it appears that it is booting up properly
but before everything loads properly the system will
freeze up and my only choice is to shut down and try to
reboot although it will not work if the router is hooked
up. The only way I can boot up is if I disconnect the
router from the computer. Then I can boot up the computer
and its OK. I then attach the router to the back of the
computer, the network functions set up and I am able to
connect to the internet. I do get more freeze ups while
using the internet than I ever had also. Any ideas as to
why I cannot boot up the computer when the router is
attached? Could it have something to do with my McAfee
firewall conflicting with the router?

It sounds like the network card is trying to boot from the lan. If so,
You may need to change network cards or drivers.
There is also a possibility that a BIOS setting may help.

Brian,

Sorry, I don't have a solution to your problem. I have a
very similar problem and was hoping you had figure the
problem out. The only difference is I am using just a
Ethernet Hub not a router. This system will hang during
startup if I have the ethernet cable connected. The
system that hangs is a ME and the system it connect to is
XP.
